Neuske's "smoked" bacon uses LIQUID SMOKE. It's not real smoked bacon...
Hi Gary, that's very untrue. Nueske's is so well-loved and well-known because they smoke over genuine Wisconsin Applewood logs and DON'T ever use liquid smoke like grocery store brands. Nueske's is an artisan bacon and the Nueske family has their smokehouses located @ 1390 E Grand Ave, Wittenberg, WI. You can also check their ingredient listing and you will see this is confirmed _ NO liquid smoke. Happy GENUINE SMOKING! Viva la NUESKE'S!

I've had Nueke's bacon, although not my favorite, it's second to true Artisan bacons, and I don't consider Nueske's to be a true Artisan bacon, although it is quite good and as close to Artisan bacon as you'll find in the grocery store. here's a wonderful Artisan bacon site: http://www.gratefulpalate.com/I was told they use liquid smoke by a small Artisan bacon producer, who claimed he visited their bacon facility personally. I haven't been there personally, so perhaps he was just putting them down for other reasons. I'll see how far Wittenberg is from our cottage and check it out this summer.Before I discovered Howard's Grove Meat Market bacon, Nueske's was our bacon of choice, but HGMM bacon is an order of magnitude more delicious! (for me, anyway) Bacon afficionados are free to have their favorites, and be pig-headed (pun intended) about what is good and not so good :-)
Gary, that's the beauty of our wonderful country - there is so much good bacon! We can like all kinds of bacon. We also like Father's bacon from Kentucky and Benton's Smokehouse bacon from Tennessee. Patrick Cudahy is pretty good for commercial bacon, and, of course, there is Usinger's. So much bacon! So little time!But fact and opinion are not the same thing. It sounds like you were led astray by someone who had bad information himself. :)
Megan, I will look for you! I am trying to convince SH to go, but he is usually still working at that hour. Plus he is not crazy about the idea of mixing bacon with chocolate.
