Marriage 201, Lecture 365: Confirmed bachelor

SH: For a while, I was trying to get shirts with huge flowers.

Me: Uh-huh.

SH: Some people questioned my manhood but I'm secure.

Me: I'm not questioning your manhood. I'm questioning your taste.

And the radio show will be ready in a podcast when?

So are you talking Hawaiian shirt-type flowers or something more gaudy?

There was a time when my not-yet-husband decided he was going to be Hawaiian Shirt Guy, and wore nothing but Hawaiian shirts all summer for two years or so while he toured with a professional brass ensemble.

When we started dating he told me, unprompted, that he'd stop wearing them. I didn't even have to say anything - his conscience knew. :) He still has a few though, and a couple of the tamer ones make appearances now and then...

This is the same guy who doesn't like the ties I pick out sometimes because they're "too flashy." ??

Melissa, these are gaudy Hawaiian shirts and just big flower shirts. All tacky. Kristin, maybe I should have gotten rid of the shirts before we married or as a condition of marriage.

CF, one of my brothers went through a phase where he just loved wearing Hawaiian shirts. Granted, he was only 11 at the time and still learning his sense of style.

CF, I'm just glad I didn't have to broach the subject. Awkward! At least for me it would have been.

My husband managed to find a long-sleeved Hawaiian shirt somewhere. That one's still hanging around.

And then, at my extended family's white elephant gift exchange last Christmas, he manages to pick ... out of all 40 or so unwanted items ... what turned out to be a Hawaiian shirt. The man has a sixth sense.
