Marriage 401, Lecture 165: Too big for my britches

SH: Why are you getting rid of those jeans?*

Me: Because they are too big.

SH: But aren't you trending in their direction? They might fit just right in a little while.

Me: That's why they have to go.

* "Getting rid of" means "going to consignment" or to Goodwill, unless an item is beyond wearability. Then it goes to the rag bag. Poor people don't want stained or torn clothes, either.

Amen. If you're going to donate anything--clothing, food, household goods--it had better be something you would be willing to wear, eat, or use yourself. Stingy charity is not pleasing to God or the recipient.

Joy, when I was in the Junior League and worked at the JL thrift shop, I was appalled at some of the items that JL members donated. They would donate clothes (we were each required to donate $100 worth of clothes a year) that I would have used only as rags. Shame on them.
